This circuit is operational from April to October. June to September offers the most stable weather for reaching Umling La, while September provides the best conditions for stargazing in Hanle.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Leh | Acclimatization & Briefing

  • Your expedition begins with a warm welcome at Leh Airport.
  • Our team will meet you and facilitate your transfer to the hotel. The first day is strictly dedicated to acclimatization, which is a vital step for high-altitude health.
  • After lunch and some rest, you may opt to visit the local Leh Bazaar, the peaceful Shanti Stupa, or the historic Leh Palace in the evening.

Day 2: Sham Valley Exploration | Cultural Immersion

  • After a hearty breakfast, gear up for a day exploring the unique landmarks surrounding Leh.
  • You will visit the Hall of Fame (a tribute to the Indian Army), the spiritual Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and witness the mesmerizing confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers at Sangam Point.
  • On the return leg, experience the gravity-defying phenomenon at Magnetic Hill.

Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass

  • Today you conquer the legendary Khardung La, reaching an elevation of 18,400 feet.

  • Visit the 14th-century Diskit Monastery, famous for its massive Maitreya Buddha statue, then head to the Hunder Sand Dunes for an optional ride on double-humped Bactrian camels.

Day 4: Nubra to Pangong Lake via Shyok River

  • Take a morning stroll to witness the remote lifestyle of northern India before departing for the world-famous Pangong Lake.
  • We take the adventurous Shyok River route to reach this 134-km long saltwater body.
  • Spend your evening at the exact filming location of "3 Idiots" and marvel as the lake changes colors under the setting sun.

Day 5: Pangong to Hanle | The Remote Frontier

  • Start very early for a long, challenging ride through the Changthang Valley toward the village of Hanle.
  • This leg involves navigating tough dirt trails along the banks of Pangong Lake toward Loma.
  • Reach Hanle before sunset to witness one of the world's best stargazing spots.
    • Distance: 200 km (approx. 6 hours)
    • Stay: Homestay or Dormitory in Hanle (Bare essentials only)
    • Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

 

Day 6: Umling La Pass Day Trip (19,024 Ft)

  • The most awaited day of the expedition. After breakfast, you will begin a short but intense ride, ascending 1,500 meters to reach the summit of Umling La.
  • Standing at 19,024 feet, you will be at the highest motorable road on Earth.
  • After a celebratory photo session, return to Hanle for some exploration and a second night under the dark skies.

Day 7: Hanle to Leh | The Return Journey

  • Check out from Hanle and begin the drive back to Leh.
  • The route takes you back through Mahe Bridge and then follows a scenic road along the Indus River.
  • En route, and if time permits, you can visit the Thiksey and Shey monasteries, along with the Rancho School.
    • Distance: 250 km (approx. 6 hours)
    • Stay: Hotel in Leh

Day 8: Departure from Leh

  • Savor your final Himalayan breakfast at the hotel.
