Overview

Ditch the crowded streets of Manali for the rustic charm of Jibhi and Tirthan Valley. Often called the "Hidden Paradise," Jibhi is an offbeat hamlet in the Kullu district, characterized by its traditional Kath-Kuni architecture, apple orchards, and pine forests. Located at 7,000 ft, this valley is the gateway to the Great Himalayan National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and offers the perfect blend of tranquility and adventure.

Trip Highlights

  • Jalori Pass (10,800 ft): Experience the thrill of one of the steepest motorable passes in India, offering 360-degree views of the Dhauladhar and Kinnaur ranges.
  • Serolsar Lake Trek: A soul-soothing 5 km hike through dense oak forests to a crystal-clear lake wrapped in local mythology.
  • Jibhi Waterfall: A short, scenic walk to a hidden cascading fall, perfect for morning meditation.
  • Chehni Kothi: Witness the architectural marvel of a 1,500-year-old wooden tower-fort built without any cement.
  • Riverside Bonfire: Unwind by the Tirthan River with music, stargazing, and authentic Himachali hospitality.

Mythological Local Lore: The Legend of Budhi Nagin

The Serolsar Lake is not just a body of water; it is a sacred site. According to local lore, the lake is the abode of Budhi Nagin, the mother of all Nag (serpent) deities in Himachal. Locals believe the lake is bottomless and its water is so pure that even if a leaf falls into it, the birds of the forest immediately pick it up to keep the surface pristine. No one is allowed to bathe in the lake to respect the deity’s presence.

Best Time to Visit

  • Spring/Summer (March – June): Perfect weather (10°C to 25°C) for trekking and trout fishing.
  • Autumn (September – November): Witness the valley in shades of gold and crimson as the apple harvest begins.
